Vintner's Inn - Santa Rosa WeddingSubmitted by Elena on Sun, 06/16/2013 - 15:34Every moment of Karen and Malcolm's wedding day was relaxed and happy, a reflection of the two of them. Their destination wedding at Vintner's Inn in Santa Rosa reminded me why I love photographing weddings and how appreciative I am of the people I get to spend my time with. I know they bring this joy to their friends and family daily.

Morgan - San FranciscoSubmitted by Elena on Wed, 06/05/2013 - 06:05I've known Morgan for almost ten years. We did a summer program together in high school and then ended up studying theater at the same university. Morgan is a fantastic singer songwriter now, based out of Los Angeles. You can pick up a copy of his EP, Yellow Skies, here or venture up to Sonoma this summer to see him perform in Broadway Under the Stars with Transcendence Theatre Company (did I mention Morgan was in Spring Awakening on Broadway?). When he visited San Francisco a couple months ago to do a show at Yoshi's, we had fun walking over the Golden Gate Bridge and shooting some impromptu portraits and video.

Land's End/Sutro Baths - San Francisco EngagementSubmitted by Elena on Sun, 05/26/2013 - 17:26I first met Mike and Lauren at Ritual, in the Mission. We ended up chatting for an hour about everything from photography to our love for the ocean. When I'm around them, I feel like I'm with old friends. I'm beyond thrilled to photograph their upcoming summer wedding at Beltane Ranch in Glen Ellen. In the meantime, here are the photos from their sunrise engagement shoot at Land's End. From Lauren: "Land's End is a very special place for us. When we met six and a half years ago, we spent a lot of time out on walks at Ocean Beach because I was living out in that part of the city. Even when it is foggy and windy, it's a beautiful and romantic area of the city. Most recently this location became even more special to us because it is the location where Mike got down on one knee and proposed. The engagement happened on an afternoon with a very low tide which allowed us to walk out very far on the shoreline and watch the sunset over the ocean. We love having these photos as a reminder of where our love started and where Mike proposed. Taking the photos during sunrise created a beautiful magical light for the photos. We will treasure these photos for a very long time."

This weekSubmitted by Elena on Mon, 05/13/2013 - 15:42
I had a very fun week, which included working on a "cheesy" ad campaign (I got to take those pretty flowers home!), photographing the Marine Mammal Center's fundraising gala at Fort Baker, and shooting an event up in Napa at Meadowood. I became a big fan of the Marine Mammal Center years ago, before moving to California, after seeing this program on PBS. When I moved to the Bay Area I was excited to get involved with the center and donate my time however I could. This year's fundraising gala involved a sunset yacht ride around Angel Island, with scientists on board to point out porpoises and other great animals. I feel very lucky to have been a part of such an incredible event! |
Friday FiveSubmitted by Elena on Fri, 05/03/2013 - 19:13
Five fun things from my week: Much Ado About Nothing (San Francisco Film Festival) - View the trailer here. I should start by saying I'm a big Joss Whedon fan (he directed this adaptation of Shakespeare's comedy). I also have a long history of studying, watching, and acting in Much Ado About Nothing. I was highly anticipating this movie (which was filmed in less than two weeks at Joss' house), and it did not disappoint. The two leads were at the festival to (very charmingly) introduce the film and answer questions. It will be opening in SF, LA, and NY in June. Girl with a Pearl Earring (DeYoung Museum) - Exhibition on display until June 2, 2013. This is a great exhibit that includes several Rembrandts in addition to Vermeer's classic. Seeing Girl with a Pearl Earring in person is incredible. The colors are smoother and the subject far, far more enchanting. SF Curbed - Last weekend, after a long walk around the city, I spent a solid few hours scouring the Curbed San Francisco blog. I love that it isn't just about expensive home sales, but also a great way to stay up to date on what's happening around town. Creative Live - As their website says, CreativeLive is "free live online workshops taught by world class experts." I am so grateful for everyone who is part of this community. This week's class with Joey L was especially inspiring. Fraiche Frozen Yogurt - I've been to Fraiche twice this week already. Favorite toppings: toasted coconut, mochi, and blueberries. Julia Morgan Ballroom - San Francisco WeddingSubmitted by Elena on Mon, 04/22/2013 - 06:23MyLinh and Nate's family traveled from near and far for their wedding. Filipino traditions were incorporated into the classic ceremony, which was held at St. Ignatius Church. The reception was downtown at the Julia Morgan Ballroom, one of my favorite San Francisco locations to photograph. The color red featured prominently in their design, from their logo to bouquets and centerpieces. MyLinh and Nate had their engagement session on the San Francisco Embarcadero (see here), which we revisited on their wedding day.
